The switch in there is old and stiff, another thing he'd meant to fix and hadn't yet, but there's no zap or yelp of pain on the other end of the line--and no pop of a blowing fuse on this side--and Darlington huffs a short sigh of relief.

"Nope, that's exactly what I was hoping for," he says. "Thank god."
